CHARACTERS

I took a few liberties with names and situations of characters. Please note that some names may not be the same as those in the original show.

Jay Burchell-
A young grad student and aspiring lawyer, Jay is one of the two men framed for the bombing of the Drexler museum. Jay struggles with the loss of his father, which happened when he was sixteen.

Tyler Fog-
A young grad student and aspiring chemist, Tyler is one of the two men framed for the bombing of the Drexler. Tyler has a strained relationship with his successful, businessman father.

Will Traveler-
A young spy who posed for two years as roommate/ best friend to Tyler Fogg and Jay Burchell; later framed them for the bombing of the Drexler. Shortly after, Will returns to help the men and risks everything in the process.

Kim Dowry (Originally Kim Doherty)-
Jay's girlfriend, employed as a photographer.

Nel Peterson-
Tyler's estranged girlfriend

Fred Chambers-
FBI agent in charge of the Drexler case with suspicious motives.

Jan Marlowe-
FBI agent working under chambers, interested in helping Jay and Tyler. She is willing to consider their innocence as a possibility, which separates her from every other FBI agent on the case.

Carlton Fog-
Tyler's father, owner of Fog Law Firm, and possibly connected to the Drexler incident.

Welcome to New York City.
Welcome to the world of Jay Burchell and Tyler Fog.
Welcome to Will Traveler's world.
None of them are the same places.

Welcome to the way I see all of it. Welcome to my brain and its slightly eclectic and melodramatic functions.

Welcome to the way I see Traveler.

"Traveler is a short-lived American television series that ran from May 10, 2007-July 18, 2007 on ABC in the United States. The series was produced by Warner Bros. Television."
-Wikipedia's article on Traveler

Traveler, to the shock and disappointment of its fans, was cancelled after only eight episodes.

Here is the plot summary that the TV show introduced, directly quoted from Wikipedia:

"The series follows Jay Burchell and Tyler Fog, two graduate students who become suspects when the fictitious Drexler Museum in New York is bombed while they are pulling a juvenile prank. It appears that their friend and roommate, Will Traveler, has framed them for the bombing. Afterward, Traveler disappears and there is no evidence that he ever existed. Jay and Tyler flee from the authorities, who believe them to be domestic terrorists. While on the run and trying to clear their own names, they attempt to delve into Will Traveler's past in hopes of discovering Will's motives for turning on his friends.
Meanwhile, Traveler goes on a similar search for answers. It is revealed that he is in fact a secret agent working for a division of the Department of Homeland Security called the Fourth Branch, and slowly a complex conspiracy is unraveled.
Jay and Tyler reunite with Will by the seventh episode, and together the three attempt to bring those responsible to justice. They manage to kidnap Jack Freed, director of the Fourth Branch, but before they can use him to clear Jay and Tyler's names, the limousine with Jack Freed in it explodes."

I stumbled across the show on Youtube, and was intrigued by the mystery and complexity it implied. As soon as I finished viewing the eighth episode, I got to work. Something that great couldn't be left lying.

As I stepped into the project, though, I was blown away at the difficulty of accurately portraying something so well cloaked in mystery, something that wasn't  explained because of the cancellation.
There was no way a 16 year old girl (at the time) was going to do a good job at writing a story about a government scam. No way on earth.
The more I wrote though, the more I saw the characters that the story was made of.
They were just as complex and interesting as the story itself, especially the show's namesake, Will Traveler.
I began to focus more on writing the characters themselves than trying to untangle the story.

If you're a writer, you know that after a while, the characters begin to write themselves. I fell in love with all of them, especially Will's character. Something about him was so right, yet so wrong at the same time. I love it when a character is like that. It's really, well, a character at that point.

I took the liberty of adding a few characters of my own as the work continued. I now have a character that I think stands firmly on her own two feet and brings a little peace and calm to the chaotic tale.
Another one that I added is still a little wobbly, but I have a fairly good idea of where he's going.
But those will have to be a surprise.

I haven't finished yet, and I'm still not sure how it will end. Honestly, I haven't done as well as I would have liked.

Without further ado, let me introduce to you:
